Earning a valid certification in various treatments and disciplines can help today’s cosmetic professionals grow their industry expertise and build successful careers. Plenty of cosmetic procedures exist, but laser hair reduction has been in the spotlight for years.

The growing demand for non-invasive cosmetic procedures inspires many medical professionals to be a part of it. Also, common people prefer to get advanced cosmetic treatments under the supervision of expert doctors. These have created an amazing opportunity for doctors to boost their careers in the field of cosmetology. Join one of the best laser hair removal courses designed by IICSAM (International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine) and take your career to the next level.

Why Should You Enrol in a Laser Hair Removal Course?

With the help of the internet and social media platforms, modern people are much more aware of the aesthetic procedures that can transform their lives. They are not willing to deal with painful and traditional methods of hair removal like waxing, threading, shaving, etc. anymore. Laser hair reduction is an advanced and painless procedure to get rid of unwanted facial and body hair. Both men and women across the globe are embracing this aesthetic procedure, which has become an integral part of their wellness.

In 2021, the global laser hair removal market size was estimated at $583.99 million, and by the end of 2031, it is going to reach a value of $2.51 billion. From 2022 to 2031, it is growing at a CAGR of 15.7%. The opportunity is big and is going to be bigger in the coming years. So, whoever (doctors) is interested in the cosmetology field and wants to boost their career can enroll in cosmetology courses or laser hair removal courses this year.

How to Choose the Right Institute to Get Laser Hair Removal Training

Choosing the right institute is very important. If you get the training from a non-popular or unaccredited platform, your certification won’t add any value to your career growth. Also, before joining the course, you should check whether it covers hands-on training on laser safety, anatomy of the skin and hair, pre- and post-care, the Fitzpatrick scale, patient selection, history of laser hair removal, etc. Also, you need to consider some factors to decide whether the institute is right for you or not.

1. Accreditation & Certification

You need to ensure that your chosen training center is accredited by a recognized body. An accredited training platform adheres to quality standards and credibility.

2. Expertise & Experience of the Instructors

It’s crucial to know your instructors have the right skills, certifications, and experience to teach you accordingly. Try to learn laser hair removal from instructors who have extensive experience performing advanced laser hair reduction procedures. For example, at the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, you can get training from Dr. Preeti Saraswat and Dr. Satya Saraswat.

Dr. Preeti Saraswat is an associate member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM). Dr. Satya Saraswat is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS). Both doctors are members of the Indian Association of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons. They have been in this field for more than 19 years and have successfully performed more than 13,000 plastic and cosmetic surgeries.

3. Practical Training Opportunities

Practical laser hair removal training is vital for hands-on experience. Only theoretical knowledge won’t help you grow your career in this field. Look for an institute where you can learn the nitty gritty of laser hair reduction with ample opportunities for students to practice the procedure under experts’ supervision.

Laser hair removal has become an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure in recent years. The demand for laser hair removal is rising among both men and women. This growing demand also indicates the need for more qualified professionals. Doctors who want to grow their careers in cosmetology can pursue laser hair removal courses. However, in order to truly understand the procedure and its effectiveness, it is also important to explore its history and evolution. Uncovering the development of laser hair removal technology can help candidates better understand the science behind the procedure and the reasons for its efficacy. This knowledge can be beneficial for candidates interested in joining medical cosmetology courses, as it can provide a strong foundation for learning and mastering the techniques involved in the procedure.

Hair Removal Practices Throughout History

Throughout history, humans have engaged in various hair removal practices, ranging from plucking with shells and tweezers to using wax and razors. These hair removal practices have evolved over time and have been influenced by religious, cultural, and societal norms.

The Egyptians & Sugaring

We must agree that the Egyptians contributed to shaping the modern world with their countless precious innovations. One of their beauty innovations that humans still use is the sugaring hair removal method. There was a time when men with scruffy beards and women with body hair were accepted as uncivilised. As a result, the upper-class people of Egypt tried to keep their body hair to a minimum.

They prefer to use a range of methods for hair removal. For example, they preferred to use tweezers (made from pumice stones or seashells), flint or bronze razors, and body sugaring. The sugaring method consists of ripping the hair from the root with a wax made of water, sugar, and lemon juice.

The Persians & Threading

Threading, another hair removal practice, entered the genre 5000 years ago in Persia or the Middle East. The threading procedure involves tugging on the eyebrows with thread and then pulling. This hair removal procedure is still popular in beauty salons for eyebrow shaping. This hair removal procedure is also known as “khite”.

The Europeans & Walnut Oil

Queen Elizabeth I popularised the removal of eyebrows or shaping them too thin in 16th-century Europe in order to give the forehead a larger appearance. The most interesting fact is that it is only body hair that they used to remove, letting the rest of the body and facial hair grow.

After shaving or waxing the eyebrows, women used to apply certain substances on the forehead to prevent hair growth. They mainly used walnut oil and ammonia or vinegar-soaked bandages to prevent hair regrowth.

Modern Hair Removal

The first razor was crafted by Jean Jacques Perretin in 1760. In 1880, King Camp Gillette designed the modern razor for men and for women in 1915. Most of these hair removal practices are still in active use. However, most of them come with discomfort and side effects like redness, bumps, pigmentation, itching, and the risk of infections.

The Rise of Laser Hair Removal Technology

When it comes to laser hair removal technology, the discussion should start with the name of Theodore Maiman. He is known as the “father of the electro-optics industry”. Before Maiman’s invention of laser technology in 1960, the underpinnings of this technology had been theorised by Albert Einstein. Maser, a device that works on microwave amplification by stimulating emissions of radiation, had been in practice since 1953. Maiman worked on extending the microwave capabilities of this device to the optical range. He also crafted a device that creates a short wavelength of light.

In 1060, his success was published in Nature. The first laser is known as the ruby laser. It was slow and inefficient in comparison with today’s laser technology. It was able to minimise hair growth but resulted in bikini burns.

In 1964, the YAG laser was invented. It also got approval from the FDA for hair removal. It was effective in removing unwanted facial and body hair but couldn’t provide any permanent results. In the 70s, the alexandrite laser came into play. This version was safer compared to its predecessors. However, this version was also not able to show permanent or long-term results.

Laser in the Hands of Dr. Richard Rox Anderson & Dr. Melanie Grossman

The improvement in laser hair technology was stuck at an impasse for decades. Years later, Dr. Richard Rox Anderson and Dr. Melanie Grossman started their investigation into this procedure. They started testing laser technology on hairy dogs. In 1994, they released their first paper on laser hair removal in humans. They started working with a concentrated laser beam that can travel into the hair follicles. As the beam damages the follicles, they stop growing further. Later in 1997, this procedure was approved by the FDA.

Today & Tomorrow’s Laser Hair Removal Technology

Today, laser hair removal technology has become more sophisticated than ever. It can show satisfactory results for nearly all skin and hair types. Treating patients with tanned skin or darker skin was difficult before, but now it has been solved with the help of diode laser technology. In advanced medical cosmetology courses in India or elsewhere, you will learn how using shorter and more controlled laser pulse rates can cause less risk of damage to the skin and surrounding hair follicles. Advanced technologies also use cooling mechanisms paired with laser hair removal to ensure a comfortable experience for patients.

In order to achieve optimal results, many laser hair removal clinics combine both ND: YAG and Diode technologies. In recent years, we have seen the introduction of cooling systems to create a comfortable patient experience and a diode laser to treat dark-skinned patients. Today, a patient typically requires three or more sessions to get satisfactory results. It means each treatment session can remove around 15% or more of the hair in a specific area as it depends on how many hair follicles will be in the “anagen phase”. In the coming years, we hope to see improvements in laser hair removal technology that can destroy follicles that aren’t in the anagen phase.

Conclusion

The evolution of laser hair removal is a fascinating journey, starting from the discovery of the laser itself in the 1960s to the advanced technology used today. Understanding the history of laser hair removal and its growth over the years can help candidates who are planning to enrol in laser hair removal coursesget a deeper appreciation of the technology and its applications. With the continued growth of the laser hair removal industry, staying up-to-date with its history and achievements is critical for those seeking to succeed in this field. In order to know more about laser hair removal technology and procedures, join advanced medical cosmetology courses. At the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM), you can learn about popular cosmetic procedures, lasers, and aesthetic medicine. Candidates can attend lectures and hands-on training and get certifications accordingly.

If you’re thinking of enrolling for medical cosmetology courses in India, then make sure you pick a curriculum that includes laser skin treatments. They have become widely popular as laser procedures can effectively manage wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and dark spots. They can also brighten skin tone, improve texture, and restore the elasticity of the skin.

Cosmetic clinics around the world are experiencing greater demand for laser skin specialists who can perform the various cosmetic procedures. At the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM), we provide a Hands-On Certificate Course in Cosmetology, Lasers, and Aesthetic Medicine. Eligible candidates must be BDS, BAMS, BHMS, MBBS, and above.

Our cosmetology courses devote an entire day of classes to cover the basics of laser treatments. Below, we take a brief look at some of the popular laser skin procedures.

Ablative Fractional CO2 Lasers

Ablative lasers are designed to create wounds on the skin by removing the epidermis, the upper layer of the skin. This, in turn, significantly increases the collagen and elastin production of the skin which results in tighter and smoother skin.

Ablative fractional CO2 laser treatments are used to target acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, dull skin, and skin laxity. This type of laser skin resurfacing is used to remove the upper layer of skin cells from the face, neck, and chest. It promotes collagen production and gives appearance to tighter, firmer, and smoother skin. Ablative fractional CO2 lasers have an average recovery period of close to two weeks.

Non-Ablative Fractional Lasers

Non-ablative lasers are lesser invasive than ablative lasers. They do not remove the skin’s upper surface, but instead just mildly heat up the middle and lower layers of the skin. Through this process too, the collagen production is boosted which helps rejuvenate the skin.

A non-ablative fractional laser treatment is a common topic found in most cosmetology courses. It is an elegant skincare solution that is used for brightening skin tone, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, reducing scars, and lightening dark spots.

In this type of procedure, the deeper layers of the skin are heated up and slightly damaged to increase the collagen production in your body. By doing so, the less attractive older and dryer skin cells get cleared away. To achieve the desired results, one may have to undergo multiple sessions of non-ablative fractional laser treatment. The average recovery period after each session is between one to three days.

Pulsed-Dye Lasers

This is a non-ablative laser procedure. In this, the skin layers located below the epidermis are heated up and partially damaged. This promotes collagen production and helps the skin to heal. It gives your skin an even tone and texture.

Pulsed-dye lasers are most commonly used to manage pigmentation problems. They cut down on broken capillaries and rosacea, decrease the redness of pigmented areas, and help reduce hyperpigmentation. Overall, it gives your skin a rejuvenated appearance. The average recovery period does not last for more than a week.

Erbium Laser Treatment

Erbium laser procedures could be both ablative and non-ablative, depending on the severity of your skin problem. This type of treatment is most suitable to combat fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and loose skin.

Like all laser cosmetic procedures, erbium laser resurfacing too increases the growth of collagen in the body. The recovery period will vary based on whether you go through ablative or non-ablative treatment.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Technically speaking, this is not a laser treatment. Intense Pulsed Light procedure uses a process called ‘photo rejuvenation’ where a broad spectrum of light wavelengths is used to bring youthfulness to the skin.

The power of light waves is used to fight with skincare problems such as redness, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and spider veins. This is a minimally invasive treatment with zero damage caused to the skin. Hence, there is no recovery period involved.

Conclusion

There has been a greater demand for cosmetology courses online in the last two years since the pandemic. With healthcare consultation going digital, aspiring doctors and medical professionals are also seeking online training courses to expand and improve their skills. Cosmetology is a lucrative field in practicing medicine. It is human nature for men and women to want to look good. And the various cosmetic procedures help people improve their aesthetic appearance.

Laser hair removal treatment is a popular cosmetic procedure among both men and women. No one wants to deal with unwanted body hair and opting for the laser procedure provides a long-lasting solution. At International Institute Of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM), we provide laser hair removal courses for MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, and BDS graduates.

Below, we look at the reasons that make laser hair removal so popular.

Saves Time

The common alternatives to laser hair removal – waxing and shaving – takes up too much time and effort. To maintain clear, smooth skin, shaving has to be done once per week and waxing needs repeat sessions at the salon every 3-4 weeks. Why spend so much time on these inefficient hair removal methods when laser hair removal is both quick and effective?

Typically, a laser hair removal session takes no more than 30 minutes each. And the number of sessions for each patient may vary depending on individual factors. It targets multiple hair follicles at the same time, making it a quick and time-saving procedure.

Cost-Effective

A waxing appointment at a salon charges anywhere between Rs. 300 – Rs. 800. Consider this cost for a lifetime and a person ends up spending a large chunk of their savings on hair removal! Similarly for shaving, the cost includes razors, shaving creams, and after-shave lotions for a lifetime of supply.

In a laser hair removal procedure, the hair follicles are destroyed from the root and hence, stop the hair growth permanently. It may not be cheaper than the traditional hair removal methods, but it is definitely cost-effective in the long run.

Painless

With shaving, there is always a fear of small nicks and cuts. Waxing is a painful procedure for many, especially for those with sensitive skin. Laser hair removal procedure is completely safe, painless, and comfortable. Most patients describe the procedure as a sensation similar to a pinprick. It does not cause any discomfort or pain.

Suitable for All Skin Tones

Laser hair removal can be opted for by people of all skin colours and skin tones. When aspiring doctors take up laser hair removal courses, they are trained in how to change the settings in a laser machine. Technology has come a long way and nowadays, the intensity and the angle of the laser beams can be adjusted to suit the patient’s skin tone.

Precise treatment

In a laser hair removal procedure, the laser machine targets a specific area of the skin to destroy the hair follicles in that region. This makes it the best cosmetic procedure for people who are looking to remove hair from a particular area on their body such as the upper lips, nose area, or bikini line. It gives the patient direct and precise results.

Stops Hair Ingrowth

Some people are prone to having more ingrown hairs, which can be difficult to remove via shaving or waxing. In a laser hair removal procedure, the hair root is destroyed from within. Thus, it eliminates any chances of ingrown hair on your skin.

No Waiting for Regrowth

In waxing, there must be enough hair growth on the skin for the wax to stick to, making it easy to pull the hair out. This means there must be a certain period between appointments where hair regrowth is necessary. With laser hair removal, you can completely skip this hair regrowth phase.

Laser therapy is one of the most sought-after procedures in today’s time, all thanks to the technological advancements in the field of medicine. This has inadvertently given rise to the number of institutions providing laser therapy training to those who wish to carry forward a future in the field. This blog focuses on everything you need to know about laser therapy.

How does laser therapy function? Kinds of lasers used.

The way laser therapy function is uncomplicated. Here, photons enter into the affected tissue you want to treat and are absorbed by the mitochondria and at the cell membrane. The energy radiated by the membrane is thus converted to chemical energy in the form of ATP to turn into physiological changes. This is to note that the effects of laser therapy are photochemical, not thermal. The various types of lasers available in the medical field that is used for the treatment are:

Nd: YAG: As a long-wavelength laser, this 1064 mm device can easily penetrate the skin and is perfect for removing unwanted hair from the body.

IPL: An acronym for Intense Pulsed Light, this flashlamp 515-1200mm device is known to emit a broad spectrum of light wavelengths. It is perfect for conditions that require treatment of redness, sun damage, skin tightening, and even dark spots.

Diode: As one of the most common lasers, this 800-810mm device is a long-wavelength laser best used for unwanted hair removal for the ones with a darker skin tone.

Co2: This 10,600mm device is known to be a path-breaking invention for those who want to go for skin tightening, skin lesions, scars, tattoos, and wrinkles, among others.

Q-Switch Laser: As one of the most high-intensity lasers used in treatment, this is the perfect device for those who want to treat sun freckles, tattoos, and brown spots on their skin.

What are the various benefits of laser therapy?

Laser therapy has reported numerous benefits over the years. Some of the most well-known advantages of the same are:

1. Improved joint mobility because of its anti-inflammatory action
2. Increase in the metabolism with the higher secretion of special enzymes
3. Improvement in the immune responses
4. The rapid growth of the cell and reproduction
5. Reduction in the formation of scar tissue after major surgery or injury
6. The faster rate of wound healing and fibroblast development

Topics covered under a laser therapy course

Reputable institutions like IICSAM provide hands-on laser therapy training for those who have passed their MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, BDS, and above. Covering one day, this course focuses on the basics of lasers. This includes the technology used for the treatment along with the machines. The treatments explained in the course include hair removal, haemangioma, skin lightening, and tattoo removal.

Every candidate of the course gets a comprehensive overview of the Nd: YAG, Diode, CO2, and Q-Switch lasers. The professionals presiding the course also demonstrate the dos and don’ts of laser practice. The precautions that must be taken before the treatment and the preparations needed for the same are also described. The procedure is explained with a demonstration of a real-life patient.

ABHRS certified doctors presiding the course

The course at the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM) is mentored by industry-experts Dr Satya Saraswat and Dr Preeti Saraswat. Both these surgeons are certified from the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and have been in the field for a long time now.

Conclusion: It is imperative to undertake laser therapy training under experts to know everything there is about the subject.

Laser treatments have come to the forefront as one of the fastest-growing procedures today and only being regularly in touch with the subject can make someone an expert as a technician. Reputed institutions like IICSAM provide day-long cosmetic laser training courses that can be pursued by students who have just passed higher secondary to give them a primary exposure to the nuances of lasers. Through this blog, let’s take a look at what such a day-long course requires and why should anyone opt for it.

What is the exact definition of a laser?

A laser is actually an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.” This brings to the fore devices with a specific wavelength and energy that focuses on the desired target. The brief, high energy pulse of light hits the area to be treated and immediately destroys it.

These laser treatment targets are known as chromophores which include the red blood cells, melanin pigment, and the tattoo ink. The energy from the laser beams hits such chromophores which further gets absorbed by the skin and eliminates the targets.

The principal difference between laser and any other conventional light is rather simple. A flashlight, to think of, emits a multi-directional light composed of several wavelengths and covers a broad area. Laser light, on the other hand, releases a unidirectional light composed of only a single wavelength.

What are the various categories of lasers and how are they distinct?

Lasers can be categorized into two broad sections – ablative and non-ablative. The former is known to vaporize the top layers of the skin and then stimulate the controlled wound healing process. The non-ablative lasers, on the other hand, go deep into the skin and yet keep the top layers intact. Non-ablative lasers offer less downtime when compared to the ablative devices, but render less impressive results.

The significant difference between both these categories is the wavelength of lights emitted by them. The medium in each laser device includes solid, liquid, and gas, which generates the wavelength. This, in turn, determines the target area for the treatment.

Types of lasers used in the treatment

According to wavelengths, there are various kinds of lasers. Some of them are:

1. IPL (515-1200mm): Intense pulsed light is a flashlamp device that emits wavelengths in a broad spectrum. This can be used to diffuse redness, cure sun damage, treat dark spots, and skin tightening.

2. Nd: YAG (1064mm): This is a long-wavelength laser that can penetrate deep inside the skin and easily remove unwanted hair from the body.

3. CO2 (10,600mm): These have a very high affinity for water in the skin and can easily be used as a skin tightening laser. Such can reduce dark spots, skin lesions, wrinkles, scars, and tattoos.

4. Diode (800-810mm): This is the ultimate long-wavelength laser used for hair removal in people who have a darker skin tone.

Why should you undertake such a course?

The introduction of lasers have brought forth a metamorphosis in the field of cosmetic surgery, and it will only grow in the future. Today is, thus, the most suitable time to undertake cosmetic laser training courses under qualified and distinguished surgeons. The International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM) provides a day-long course conduced every month presided over by American Board-certified doctors.

This course covers topics such as the basics of laser technology and machines, the dos and don’ts in laser practice, precautions and preparations when it comes to laser patients, and the procedure. The best part of training with IICSAM is that in that one-day every candidate gets the chance of performing a hands-on live demonstration as well.

Conclusion: Dr Satya Saraswat and Dr Preeti Saraswat are the two doctors who train students under the course. Their years of experience and expertise in the field ensures that every participant is hand-held through each section. Should you want to know more about the course and apply for the same, get in touch with IICSAM at +91-9149112892.
