Baldness and hair fall can impact individual self-esteem adversely and result in undue stress. It is a common problem, experienced by irrespective of genders due to many reasons such as poor diet, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and genetic factors. These all the conditions result in serious challenges which can be treated with the hair transplantation procedure.

Hair transplant is a surgical method, which helps individuals who are suffering from excessive hair loss. As people are getting more concerned about their appearance due to peer pressure, the demand for hair transplant and restoration are gaining popularity across the world significantly. Therefore selecting a hands-on hair transplant training course makes sense. However, selection of the reputable and well-known hair transplant training institute is important is crucial to gain in-depth knowledge in this field. Before selecting the institute, one must understand what are the types of hair transplant procedures and the basic differences among them.

What is FUE and FUT hair transplant procedure?

Not all patterns of baldness and hair fall are identical. Some instances can be treated with general products for hair regrowth. However, for irreversible hair loss, specialized hair transplant methods need to implement. IICSAM offers hands-on hair transplant training course, which can equip the medical practitioners with clinical expertise. When it comes to the latest hair transplant method, Follicular unit excision(FUE) and Follicular unit transplantation(FUT) are the two basic methods. These two procedures are similarly based on the implementation process however the difference exists in the way hair follicles are extracted from the back of the patient’s head.

What are the differences between them?
In FUT method, all the hair is extracted at once in a simple and quick process, which can take fifteen to thirty minutes. On the other hand, in FUT procedures, hairs are extracted individually with the application of minimally invasive technology. In both FUT and FUE methods, when the follicular grafts are ready, small incisions are created in the patient’s receding hairline areas that match the natural hair growth pattern. The follicular grafts are strategically placed one by one with utmost care according to the quantity of hair within each follicle. With the Hair transplant training India offered by IICSAM, one can easily learn the difference between them.

Which process yields successful results?
Both the processes yield successful results while patients enjoy daily activities such as listening to music, watching movies or reading story books. Healing is quick with both methods. However, FUE procedures do not require any stitches. Tiny extraction on the head leaves virtually no detectable scars at all. These places are easily concealed with adjacent hair and heal by themselves, generally within seven days. FUE procedure is preferred by individuals who style their hair very short. FUE procedures require to shave the head of the patients. If the individuals decide to avert short haircut, FUT procedure acts as a better option. The FUT procedure causes a fine scar on the back of the patient’s head while removing graft the grafts as a group which can be easily concealed with the hair length of a half inch or longer.

Conclusion
IICSAM offers a different and unique approach in hair transplant training, unlike other institutes. You need to understand the basic differences between each method while picking the course to gain hands-on knowledge in clinical hair transplantation method.

Hair transplantation refers to a type of surgery in which hair is moved from one area of the body to another. The two primary forms of modern hair transplant surgery available are the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). It’s important to understand the differences between FUE and FUT hair transplant methods to advise the best treatment plan to a patient.

What’s The Difference – FUE and FUT

For hair transplant, it is essential that the surgeon takes the donor hair only from a safe region. Removal of hair from the donor area in the scalp is performed by two surgical techniques – the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In the FUT method of hair removal, the surgeon removes a thin strip of hair from the donor area. In the FUE hair transplant, each of the hair grafts is removed separately from the donor area using a punch tool. Although the method of hair removal differs in these two methods, the hair grafts are transplanted in the same way. In many clinics, FUE is the preferred choice instead of FUT. The reason being, a smaller team, is required to perform FUE hair transplant. In the case of the FUT procedure, an acceptable standard of surgery needs to be performed, and a skilled surgeon is required to perform the operation so that there is no risk involved.

Advantages And Disadvantages – FUE Vs FUT

In most of the FUE hair transplant cases, the entire scalp of the patient has to be shaved before performing the procedure. On the contrary, the FUT procedure involves trimming only the strip of hair that needs to be removed, allowing patients to get back to their normal lives much more early, without making others notice of a hair transplant.

Due to taking every second hair graft from the safe donor area in the FUE technique, the yield of graft hairs is lower. This often forces surgeons to take recourse to outside areas to remove hair, which means, the patient finds thinning and loss of hair with ageing.

In the FUE procedure, if hairs are removed from outside of the donor area, there are chances of circular scars occurring in the outside donor region, and over time, the scars start becoming noticeable. And due to the lower accuracy of the punch tool than that performed by a technician with a microscope, the survival rate of grafts is lower in an FUE hair transplant.

The patient undergoing a FUT hair transplant has a stitch on the treated area, which requires the patient to return after a week to get it removed. However, no such stitches are necessary for the FUE hair transplant.

Scarring – FUT and FUE Hair Transplants

It should be noted that both FUE and FUT hair transplants procedures leave scars, even if performed by the most skilled hair transplant surgeons. In the case of FUT linear scar, a linear scar results whereas the FUE procedures leaves multiple circular scars across a wider area. Any person who prefers to wear short hair will find the FUE hair transplant the better choice as the resultant scars from the procedure is likely to be less noticeable because the scars are spread out widely on the scalp.

Which One is Preferable – FUE OR FUT

If a patient decides to have a second or third hair transplant, later on, the FUT procedure allows the surgeon to remove the previous linear scar from the first technique, thus leaving with only a single scar on the patient. This is not the case with an FUE procedure as the surgeon is required to create a new scar area.

Under normal circumstances, FUT technique is the preferred choice for larger hair transplants due to impressive results. The FUE technique is opted for smaller hair transplants as well as eyebrows and scars transplants.

At IICSAM, we offer both Hands-on FUE and FUT Hair Transplant Training courses for the practising doctors who would like to add the knowledge and skills gained to their existing practices and help them to assess the individual needs of the patient and advise on the right hair transplant technique for them.

There is a gradual withdrawal of the practices of traditional hair transplant surgeries. Persistent research and good results have led to the introduction of many innovative procedures that are being taught in various hair transplant training courses in India. FUT and FUE procedures are now quite popular forms that are being practised nowadays by balding people across the world and the results are quite satisfactory. With rapidly developing technology, more interesting and effective methods with better success rates are being adopted for hair transplant.

Here is a discussion on the latest advancements in hair transplant surgeries.

Follicular Unit Excision
This form of hair transplant is often taken to be a simple and straight forward procedure by laypersons. They consider the procedure involves collecting some healthy hairs from the donor area, and implanting them into the balding area of the scalp, and finishing it off with dressing. However, reality consists of many intricacies. It requires a skilled specialist surgeon to perform a successful hair transplant surgery that is painless and blemish-free.

In recent times, Follicular Unit Excision procedure is increasingly replacing the Follicular Unit Extraction method. The procedure is intricate and painstaking and requires a skilled surgeon to perform the surgery. The procedure involves careful excision and removal of separate hair follicles. No doubt, the surgeon performing the surgery needs to be patient and skilful to collect single strand of hair, instead of collecting in patches. Efforts are made to prevent linear scars, though in certain cases, tiny, dotted scars may remain in the treated area of the scalp.

Beard and Eyebrow Transplants
Although hair transplant of the head constitutes the lion’s share of the market for hair transplants, there is an increasing trend among people towards eyebrow and facial hair transplants. This has led to many hair transplant surgeons perfecting their surgical methods and offer their services in this sector to deliver natural results with least side effects. Now more and more people are going for the fuller beards and thicker eyebrows and are opting for a natural approach to have hairs on more places than only the scalp. Surgeons make use of the FUT or FUE procedure to replace patchy or thinning areas with real hairs harvested from the scalp. And after appropriate post-operation care, visible results can be expected in 3 to 6 months.

Cloning
In cloning, some cells from the donor area are taken, which are then multiplied under control. For quite some time, researchers have been trying to clone hair in the laboratory. Biotech companies have pressed in money and energy into this cutting-edge technology of hair growth. Researchers are conducting experiments and clinical trials under controlled situations to improve the efficiency of the method. The researchers actually work in regenerating the required cells. In the FUE method, the researchers extract about 50 follicles from the donor area and isolate the cellular components from them. These cellular components are then replicated in the laboratory and multiplied up to 1500 cells. The newly developed cells are then injected in the donor area of the patient for their natural growth.

Although in its nascent stage, researchers are holding a lot of promise in cloning and regeneration. The focus of the research is to bring out superior techniques for the growth of hair. The surgeries performed is minimally invasive and does not require regular maintenance. In a not too distant future, a patient will be able to freeze their healthy cells in ice for later use if they go bald in their later life.

IICSAM is a leading centre offering hair transplant training courses in India. The vast experience and advanced equipment allow this hair transplant training institute to offer hands-on training in hair transplantation surgery.
