Male or female pattern hair loss is a condition almost every second person is facing in today’s date. This can happen due to a variety of reasons, excessive exposure to pollution being one of them, apart from genetics. If hair loss is not pointed out and rectified in the correct time, it might lead to balding and severe action has to be taken. One of the most widely used options that treat the condition is going for surgery.

Define the surgical method of a hair transplant

Surgical hair transplant is a procedure where healthy hair follicles are typically extracted from the scalp (or, in some cases, the body) and implanted to the balding or thinning area. The former area is called the “donor site” and the latter, “recipient site.” In this procedure, only those follicular grafts that are not known to bald, are chosen to be transplanted.

These surgeries are performed in two ways: Follicular Unit Transplantation and Follicular Unit Extraction.

Follicular Unit Transplantation

In FUT, a strip of hair follicle bearing scalp is taken from the head. The strip is then slivered to smaller portions to be transplanted to the balding area. If the FUT procedure is performed accurately, then it bears a natural and undetectable result in a very small amount of time.

Local anaesthesia is used to numb the scalp, and the procedure leaves a scar at the donor site as well. The harvested follicular units from the donor site are then one-by-one implanted to the scalp to replicate the natural hair growth pattern.

Follicular Unit Extraction

As an advanced method to perform a hair transplant surgery, FUE uses a small round low-torque punch device to extract follicular units from the scalp. Needless to say, this leaves a linear scar but nothing too noticeable. The follicular units extracted are then implanted to the scalp for optimum results.

The number of sittings required for either of the procedures depend on the area to be treated. One of the significant factors that affect the success of the FUE hair transplant method is the survival rate of the follicular units upon extraction. This also has a quicker patient recovery rate than other methods.

With the increase in demand for the procedure among patients across the globe, the requirement for a qualified hair transplant surgeon has increased as well. That has given rise to reputable institutions like the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine (IICSAM) to offer a hair transplant course to medical professionals.

Major takeaways from a professional transplant course

Conducted for two-days with two-seats each month, throughout the year, IICSAM’s FUT and FUE course is meant for professionals who have crossed their MBBS and above courses. Available in both individual and group classes, this course includes:

1. The basics of FUT and FUE
2. Hair and scalp anatomy
3. Treating male and female hair loss
4. Anaesthesia
5. Preparation of grafts along with storing and handling them
6. Pre and post-operative care
7. Scalp Micropigmentation
8. Hairline designing
9. Instrumentation
10. Slit formation in the recipient site

All these topics are included in this course, along with a hands-on demonstration of a real patient for an in-depth glimpse of the transplant surgery. The doctors participating in this two-day course are given multiple-choice questions before and after the course to evaluate their skills. The best part of undertaking such training at IICSAM is that it is presided over by skilful surgeons.

There is also a bi-annual course held during the end of March and October each year. This training includes the basics, along with topics such as the vertex, crown, temporal points, and body hair transplant.

ABHRS certified doctors mentoring the candidates

Dr Satya Saraswat and Dr Preeti Saraswat, both certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and specialists in hair transplant mentor the candidates undertaking the training at IICSAM. Their years of experience in the field allows them to give thorough on-the-job training, hand-holding every candidate throughout the course duration.

Conclusion: Undertaking hair transplant training under experts is essential when it comes to pursuing a future in the field. The International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine is one of the most sought after places that offer such training along with a hands-on demonstration as well. Should you want to know more about the subject or enrol yourself for the course, do get in touch with IICSAM. Call +91-9149112892 or Mail iicsamagra@gmail.com.

Hair loss or hair fall has become a widespread problem in men and women of today’s time. This is because of the rising levels of stress and increased exposure to pollution, which, in turn, boosts the need for hair transplantation surgery. India, however, still has a shortage of hair transplant surgeons until now. Today, you can add to your qualifications after your MBBS and opt for hair transplant training to give your career a different turn.

What is a hair transplant surgery all about?

First things first, hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves removing follicles of hair from the “donor area” to insert them at a “recipient area.” Known to be an excellent and long-lasting cure for baldness and hair thinning, it has slowly become a very successful treatment. The eligibility criteria for applying for a hair transplant course in India are the doctors who have passed DNB, MD, MS, MBBS, MCh.

Hair transplant surgery can be divided into two parts –

1. Follicular Unit Transplantation: Through this process, a small portion of hair is taken from an area where there is a healthy production of it and inserted to the area which needs it the most. As a preliminary way of conducting the hair transplant procedure, the entire motive of FUT rested at replication of the natural growth of hair in the recipient area if the surgery goes well.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction: This is a modernized form of hair transplantation where a small punch device is used to extract the follicles straight from the scalp and then inserted in the recipient area. Being the more commonly used hair transplant procedure, FUE training can give you a high-earning career in hair transplant in the future.

What are the components of a hair transplant training course?

The best hair transplant training course in India should involve a compilation of everything there is to know about the procedure. The major points covered by courses must include the anatomy of the hair, reasons of hair loss, setting up of the clinic, pre and post-operative preparation, how to form a slit, preparing the grafts for the treatment, insertion of grafts, Follicle Transection rates, scalp micro-pigmentation, slivering, and hairline design.

IICSAM or the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine, as one of the best places for such a course, provides hands-on training for the medical professionals to understand what difficulties a real-life situation can bring. The doctors are also asked to take an examination before and after the course to test their skills. The institute uses Advanced Automated Response System (Advanced ARS) for the interactive sessions. The two-day certification FUT and FUE hair transplant course is presided over by Dr Satya Saraswat.

As an ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery) certified doctor, Dr Saraswat is updated about the latest trends of the field. He is an M.Ch, D.N.B, M.B.B.S, and M.S with specialization in Plastic Surgery and Hair Restoration. He has received an award for his outstanding contribution to the medical field from the Honorable Health Minister of India. He takes care of the entire course and opens it for only the most eligible two seats each month.

Conclusion: IICSAM provides the best hair transplant training in India, and that includes both the FUE and FUE procedures. After getting a certification from the institute, you will be able to land a job at an aesthetic clinic easily. To know more, get in touch.

Hair transplantation refers to a type of surgery in which hair is moved from one area of the body to another. The two primary forms of modern hair transplant surgery available are the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). It’s important to understand the differences between FUE and FUT hair transplant methods to advise the best treatment plan to a patient.

What’s The Difference – FUE and FUT

For hair transplant, it is essential that the surgeon takes the donor hair only from a safe region. Removal of hair from the donor area in the scalp is performed by two surgical techniques – the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In the FUT method of hair removal, the surgeon removes a thin strip of hair from the donor area. In the FUE hair transplant, each of the hair grafts is removed separately from the donor area using a punch tool. Although the method of hair removal differs in these two methods, the hair grafts are transplanted in the same way. In many clinics, FUE is the preferred choice instead of FUT. The reason being, a smaller team, is required to perform FUE hair transplant. In the case of the FUT procedure, an acceptable standard of surgery needs to be performed, and a skilled surgeon is required to perform the operation so that there is no risk involved.

Advantages And Disadvantages – FUE Vs FUT

In most of the FUE hair transplant cases, the entire scalp of the patient has to be shaved before performing the procedure. On the contrary, the FUT procedure involves trimming only the strip of hair that needs to be removed, allowing patients to get back to their normal lives much more early, without making others notice of a hair transplant.

Due to taking every second hair graft from the safe donor area in the FUE technique, the yield of graft hairs is lower. This often forces surgeons to take recourse to outside areas to remove hair, which means, the patient finds thinning and loss of hair with ageing.

In the FUE procedure, if hairs are removed from outside of the donor area, there are chances of circular scars occurring in the outside donor region, and over time, the scars start becoming noticeable. And due to the lower accuracy of the punch tool than that performed by a technician with a microscope, the survival rate of grafts is lower in an FUE hair transplant.

The patient undergoing a FUT hair transplant has a stitch on the treated area, which requires the patient to return after a week to get it removed. However, no such stitches are necessary for the FUE hair transplant.

Scarring – FUT and FUE Hair Transplants

It should be noted that both FUE and FUT hair transplants procedures leave scars, even if performed by the most skilled hair transplant surgeons. In the case of FUT linear scar, a linear scar results whereas the FUE procedures leaves multiple circular scars across a wider area. Any person who prefers to wear short hair will find the FUE hair transplant the better choice as the resultant scars from the procedure is likely to be less noticeable because the scars are spread out widely on the scalp.

Which One is Preferable – FUE OR FUT

If a patient decides to have a second or third hair transplant, later on, the FUT procedure allows the surgeon to remove the previous linear scar from the first technique, thus leaving with only a single scar on the patient. This is not the case with an FUE procedure as the surgeon is required to create a new scar area.

Under normal circumstances, FUT technique is the preferred choice for larger hair transplants due to impressive results. The FUE technique is opted for smaller hair transplants as well as eyebrows and scars transplants.

At IICSAM, we offer both Hands-on FUE and FUT Hair Transplant Training courses for the practising doctors who would like to add the knowledge and skills gained to their existing practices and help them to assess the individual needs of the patient and advise on the right hair transplant technique for them.

There is an array of diverse hair loss treatments available today, and this can become quite confusing when you first start doing your research. The most feasible solution for the bald area is to have a good hair transplant. Hair Transplant Surgery is the only permanent solution to hair loss. It moves the donor hair from one part of the scalp – the ‘donor site’ – to the bald, or balding, part of the scalp – the ‘recipient site’.

There are two main types of hair grafts harvesting methods-
1. FUE (Follicular unit excision)
2. FUT (Follicular unit transplantation),

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), is the technique involving the harvesting and transplanting the donor hairs in natural groupings, by the strip method is considered as the gold standard.
New techniques have improved the quality and efficiency of Follicular Unit Extraction now called Excision or FUE Transplants. These new techniques utilize the latest technology including automated devices and robotics.
Other procedures that exist on the horizon are gene therapy techniques and hair stem cell production. Hair stem cell production, or hair multiplication, will allow patients with limited donor hair to reproduce or clone their hair in a laboratory, while gene therapy works by deactivating certain cells after being injected into a patient. Both of these techniques have exciting implications for the future of hair restoration.
Both FUT and FUE procedures aim to get the same results at the end but are fundamentally very different types of surgery in terms of Harvesting of Follicles

1.Follicular unit transplantation (FUT)

It is a procedure where hairs are transplanted from areas at the back and sides of the scalp to the balding areas of the scalp by taking out a strip of hair bearing area. The patient is locally anesthetized and a surgeon removes a single strip or multiple strips of tissue from the donor area as per his practice. The donor strip is cut into multiple salivers which then are further divided into individual follicular units. The doctor then makes tiny slits in the scalp, where the follicular unit grafts are carefully placed. The placement of the grafts is usually done by a team of nurses or healthcare assistants.

2. Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)

FUE technique was developed later and uses more advanced machines than previous methods of hair transplantation (i.e.strip harvesting transplantation or FUT). In follicular unit excision, a highly experienced surgeon extracts hair follicles from the donor area (typically occipital, temporal and parietal areas) with the use of a specialized extraction instrument, which is a low torque , very sophisticated Follicular unit Excision machine. The follicles are then seen and segregated under the microscope and then transferred to the recipient area. Using a specialized microsurgical needle, the surgeon creates slits in the scalp area that will receive the grafts. The grafts are then inserted at an angle and direction into the recipient area, and with a specific density so that it will resemble a natural and realistic hair pattern.
Tools don’t make any surgery better but it may make the doctor’s job a little easier. Just like a better oven will not make a meal taste tastier, You still need a good cook (or a good doctor). So, obtaining great results from your hair restoration surgery comes down to three very important facts:

#1: Selecting A Highly Qualified and Trained Hair Restoration Surgeon
#2: The Experience of the Hair Transplant Surgeon Performing FUE.
#3: Daily Medical Treatment Program for Hair Stabilization

Have you ever dreamt of becoming an expert in FUE and FUT Hair Transplant Training Courses in India? Here comes the best one to provide you with the required skills to manage the hair transplants with efficiency.

The FUE and FUT methods are not handy at first and might not be easily available for a beginner. More than 15 million cosmetic surgeries were performed in the US alone in the last decade. The rising demand of precise and well trained practitioners in the field of Hair Transplant as well Cosmetology Surgery in Medicine and Laser Technology Treatment has evolved a golden opportunity to learn from the best ever recognised, International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine, in short IICSAM. Dr. Satya Saraswat, the founder of IICSAM, is Board Certified Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeon. His qualifications are MBBS, MS, Mch, DNB(Gold medalist).
