Hair loss is a prevalent condition that is seen in a lot of people of today’s time, and the only permanent remedy to the situation is a hair transplant. The hair transplant procedures are non-invasive and bring in a natural look to the receding hairline. With the ever-increasing need for hair transplant surgery, the requirements for trained surgeons are going up by the day as well. Several reputable institutes like IICSAM train medical professionals to be experts in the field. To opt for such a course, it is vital to know what hair transplant surgery is all about.

What is hair transplant and how many types of hair transplant procedures are there?

In general terms, hair transplant is a process where follicles from one part of the body are removed and implanted to the area that needs treatment. The area from where the follicles are removed is called the “donor site” and the area to be treated is called the “recipient site.”

There are two types of hair transplant procedures:

1. FUT: Follicular Unit Transplantation is a technique where a strip of the hair that contains follicles is taken from the scalp. Following this, the follicles are segregated from the strip and then grafted to the recipient site. FUT might be an older method that leaves a scar on the back of the head, but it is a very effective way as well. Trained surgeons work with thousands of grafts in one single session, ensuring the best and most natural-looking results out of the procedure.

2. FUE: Follicular Unit Extraction is a method where follicles are directly extracted from the scalp. The reason why FUE is preferred among both the hair transplant procedures is that the process has a faster patient recovery rate. Doctors who are certified from the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery are best suited for the job as only they will be able to make sure that the follicles are extracted accurately.

What are the steps of preparing for a hair transplant?

Several steps have to be taken into consideration when performing hair transplant procedures. If summarized, they fall under two broad sections of preparation.

1. Donor Area: The first step in the process is to prepare the donor area for the surgery. In this, the hair on the donor area is trimmed and is put under local anaesthesia. Then, according to the process, the tissue in the donor area with bald resistant hair follicles are extracted.

2. Recipient Area: Once the donor site is prepared and the follicles removed, the balding area is set-up for the treatment. There is no need to shave or trim the recipient area. Then, the grafts are placed on the scalp according to the procedure performed.

Important points to know about hair transplant

There are numerous factors which contribute to giving the most beneficial results out of hair transplant procedures. This includes the final cost of the surgery that depends on the number of grafts that have been performed. The more the number of grafts, the higher the rate. The success or failure of a hair transplant surgery depends on the quality of the donor hair as well. A trained aesthetician will be able to fully ascertain what procedure to choose and which would act as the best donor site.

At IICSAM, you get ABHRS certified doctors who provide hands-on hair transplant training for professionals that touches all aspects of hair transplant procedures.

Conclusion: As a medical professional, if you want to take up a speciality in hair transplant as your career, you might want to opt for the hands-on FIT and FUE training courses provided by the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine. This 2-days per month course is presided over by Dr Satya Saraswat and Dr Preeti Saraswat, ensuring you get to know all about hair transplant procedures through lectures and demonstrations.

Hair loss or hair fall has become a widespread problem in men and women of today’s time. This is because of the rising levels of stress and increased exposure to pollution, which, in turn, boosts the need for hair transplantation surgery. India, however, still has a shortage of hair transplant surgeons until now. Today, you can add to your qualifications after your MBBS and opt for hair transplant training to give your career a different turn.

What is a hair transplant surgery all about?

First things first, hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves removing follicles of hair from the “donor area” to insert them at a “recipient area.” Known to be an excellent and long-lasting cure for baldness and hair thinning, it has slowly become a very successful treatment. The eligibility criteria for applying for a hair transplant course in India are the doctors who have passed DNB, MD, MS, MBBS, MCh.

Hair transplant surgery can be divided into two parts –

1. Follicular Unit Transplantation: Through this process, a small portion of hair is taken from an area where there is a healthy production of it and inserted to the area which needs it the most. As a preliminary way of conducting the hair transplant procedure, the entire motive of FUT rested at replication of the natural growth of hair in the recipient area if the surgery goes well.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction: This is a modernized form of hair transplantation where a small punch device is used to extract the follicles straight from the scalp and then inserted in the recipient area. Being the more commonly used hair transplant procedure, FUE training can give you a high-earning career in hair transplant in the future.

What are the components of a hair transplant training course?

The best hair transplant training course in India should involve a compilation of everything there is to know about the procedure. The major points covered by courses must include the anatomy of the hair, reasons of hair loss, setting up of the clinic, pre and post-operative preparation, how to form a slit, preparing the grafts for the treatment, insertion of grafts, Follicle Transection rates, scalp micro-pigmentation, slivering, and hairline design.

IICSAM or the International Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine, as one of the best places for such a course, provides hands-on training for the medical professionals to understand what difficulties a real-life situation can bring. The doctors are also asked to take an examination before and after the course to test their skills. The institute uses Advanced Automated Response System (Advanced ARS) for the interactive sessions. The two-day certification FUT and FUE hair transplant course is presided over by Dr Satya Saraswat.

As an ABHRS (American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery) certified doctor, Dr Saraswat is updated about the latest trends of the field. He is an M.Ch, D.N.B, M.B.B.S, and M.S with specialization in Plastic Surgery and Hair Restoration. He has received an award for his outstanding contribution to the medical field from the Honorable Health Minister of India. He takes care of the entire course and opens it for only the most eligible two seats each month.

Conclusion: IICSAM provides the best hair transplant training in India, and that includes both the FUE and FUE procedures. After getting a certification from the institute, you will be able to land a job at an aesthetic clinic easily. To know more, get in touch.

Hair transplantation refers to a type of surgery in which hair is moved from one area of the body to another. The two primary forms of modern hair transplant surgery available are the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). It’s important to understand the differences between FUE and FUT hair transplant methods to advise the best treatment plan to a patient.

What’s The Difference – FUE and FUT

For hair transplant, it is essential that the surgeon takes the donor hair only from a safe region. Removal of hair from the donor area in the scalp is performed by two surgical techniques – the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In the FUT method of hair removal, the surgeon removes a thin strip of hair from the donor area. In the FUE hair transplant, each of the hair grafts is removed separately from the donor area using a punch tool. Although the method of hair removal differs in these two methods, the hair grafts are transplanted in the same way. In many clinics, FUE is the preferred choice instead of FUT. The reason being, a smaller team, is required to perform FUE hair transplant. In the case of the FUT procedure, an acceptable standard of surgery needs to be performed, and a skilled surgeon is required to perform the operation so that there is no risk involved.

Advantages And Disadvantages – FUE Vs FUT

In most of the FUE hair transplant cases, the entire scalp of the patient has to be shaved before performing the procedure. On the contrary, the FUT procedure involves trimming only the strip of hair that needs to be removed, allowing patients to get back to their normal lives much more early, without making others notice of a hair transplant.

Due to taking every second hair graft from the safe donor area in the FUE technique, the yield of graft hairs is lower. This often forces surgeons to take recourse to outside areas to remove hair, which means, the patient finds thinning and loss of hair with ageing.

In the FUE procedure, if hairs are removed from outside of the donor area, there are chances of circular scars occurring in the outside donor region, and over time, the scars start becoming noticeable. And due to the lower accuracy of the punch tool than that performed by a technician with a microscope, the survival rate of grafts is lower in an FUE hair transplant.

The patient undergoing a FUT hair transplant has a stitch on the treated area, which requires the patient to return after a week to get it removed. However, no such stitches are necessary for the FUE hair transplant.

Scarring – FUT and FUE Hair Transplants

It should be noted that both FUE and FUT hair transplants procedures leave scars, even if performed by the most skilled hair transplant surgeons. In the case of FUT linear scar, a linear scar results whereas the FUE procedures leaves multiple circular scars across a wider area. Any person who prefers to wear short hair will find the FUE hair transplant the better choice as the resultant scars from the procedure is likely to be less noticeable because the scars are spread out widely on the scalp.

Which One is Preferable – FUE OR FUT

If a patient decides to have a second or third hair transplant, later on, the FUT procedure allows the surgeon to remove the previous linear scar from the first technique, thus leaving with only a single scar on the patient. This is not the case with an FUE procedure as the surgeon is required to create a new scar area.

Under normal circumstances, FUT technique is the preferred choice for larger hair transplants due to impressive results. The FUE technique is opted for smaller hair transplants as well as eyebrows and scars transplants.

At IICSAM, we offer both Hands-on FUE and FUT Hair Transplant Training courses for the practising doctors who would like to add the knowledge and skills gained to their existing practices and help them to assess the individual needs of the patient and advise on the right hair transplant technique for them.
